One month

We are two days away from Reece being one month old. On one hand I wonder where the month went, and on the other hand it feels like it’s dragged. The days are long but the months are short and all.
Reece is doing amazingly. He is such a good baby. He almost NEVER cries. His usual method of communication is grunting. He grunts when he’s hungry. Or when he is pooping. And when he has gas.
Which has been a problem. He is pretty gassy no matter what we do. He burps so well so we are surprised that he has gas issues. we have been using infants friend and over the last two days have started probiotics. We have infacol if we need it too, but overall he’s not too bad. Even when he’s uncomfortable he doesn’t really cry. He pulls his legs up and grunts 😂

He’s drinking between 150-220ml per bottle. He usually has 7-8 bottles per day, usually 2-4 hours apart. The maternal and child health nurse says he’s drinking too much, and to try to extend how long he has between feeds. But if we extend the time he gets fussy, then when we do feed him he wants to drink even more! So we have just been feeding him when he wants and we gauge how much he wants on him. If he’s still looking for a bottle after a feed we will offer another 40ml, and if he’s satisfied we don’t.

The last three days he has slept through the night! He had a bottle about 10:30 and didn’t wake up until 6:30. But I don’t think it’s a permanent thing as of yet.

Scarlett loves her brother. Absolutely adores him. She’s always comforting him and asking to hold him. She pats him and talks to him. She’s absolutely adorable toward him.

He sleeps most of the day. He’s hardly awake at this point. Only for very short periods of time.

He’s getting better at holding his head up.

He doesn’t really like the dummy. He spits it out pretty quickly.

He was 55cm at his check last week, that’s a 4cm growth from birth. He also put on 890 grams in 13 days- hence why the nurse thinks he’s eating too much. At this point they expect them to gain about 150-300grams a week MAXIMUM. So… I think he’s just going through a growth spurt. He weighed 4698grams.

I’ll add some photos now 😊

    1. Well that makes me feel better! I didn’t think it was an issue until the nurse told me it was. In saying that, I haven’t changed anything with his drinking habits so he can just keep on growing at that rate 😂 I’m sure it’s a growth spurt because he is seriously drinking like a mad man sometimes!

      1. The thing is, growth rates vary wildly over time! The curves just look smooth because their averages, not individuals! I think you’re doing a great job taking care of the baby you have, not the hypothetical average baby! ❤
