7 week ultrasound

So yesterday I had another ultrasound. I worked until 9:30pm last night so I had zero time to update yesterday.

So! I went in and we started the ultrasound.

We saw a baby, actually measuring 7 weeks 2 days (i was exactly 7 weeks), and yes, she measured it 3 times just to make certain!

We saw a flickering heart beat, with a heart rate of 132bpm.

We couldn’t see any blood around the sac or uterus, but that doesn’t clear me from bleeding.

Basically, my doctor is fairly confident everything is okay.

So, she discharged me from their care and has put me in the public system… scary.

I did a few things yesterday. I booked in for the panorama test (NIPT) which tests for chromosomal abnormalities and micro deletions. It also will tell me the gender! I get that done in exactly two weeks from today, and should have the results by 12 weeks. This is the same test I got done with Scarlett and I was very happy with how it got processed.

I also booked in for my future ultrasounds, to ensure I got a place! One at 9 weeks and one at 19 weeks. I tried to book in for a 12 week ultrasound but they told me that I’m Australia, if you pay to get a NIPT done then you no longer get a 12 week ultrasound.

I don’t see how this is fair! I’m the one spending an extra $700 to get this EXTRA test done. I don’t get any money back from Medicare, and if I had private health insurance nothing would be covered for it. So why am I being penalised for an extra test that I am paying out of pocket?

Regardless, if they don’t allow a 12 week ultrasound, I’m going to get one privately. I’ve heard too many stories of people announcing to the public and their family after the baby passed at a late stage (11 or 12 weeks) and I just need that reassurance that the baby is still alive before I tell the world.

And that’s pretty much it. I go to my GP today for referrals for everything so she will shed some more light on the 12 week ultrasound front.
